Students Beat The Colts In Close Contest

The Banger Colts traveled to the Royal Thai Naval Academy ground for their opening match in the Thai Rugby Union Competition against Kasetsart University

The match a 'game of two halves' with contrasting styles. Sticking to their tried and tested game plan, the game began at a frenetic pace with some adventurous play from both sides. The Colts were unable to set up a platform partly due to lost line outs, however they did managed with a series of pick-and-drives to get the ball to the backs and cross the try line. The Colts were down 13-7 at half time

In the second half the Colts started to put their stamp on the game and gain ascendancy in the scrum. However the Colts line out weakness was apparent. The game was starting to lose momentum, interrupted by injuries. The heavy penalty count against the Colts also took its toll. On three occasions they were yellow carded and reduced to fourteen men.

After the game, the Colts lamented their frustration when following spasms of good play, opportunities were not converted. Their commitment was not an issue, with some fine play by both forwards and backs. They were on the referee's wrong side and seemed unable to remedy the situation. This was at the heart of the narrow defeat in an error strewn encounter. Kane Epati and Alfred Roos, scored tries both converted by Chris Manders. Final Score : Kasetsart University 18, Banger Colts 14
