RBSC Mini-League - Week 3

On Thursday 17th September the Bangers took to the majestic RSBC stadium in the centre of Bangkok to face the much fancied RBSC team in our mini league. Fresh from our victory over the Japanese on Sunday we were ready for the challenge ahead.

Old Bangkok Bangers at RSBC

As a few of our stalwarts looked out of their windows and saw a few drops of rain the team looked to be depleted but from the city underworld came 4 new recruits ready to do battle with the famed Old Bangkok Bangers. The game started with a kick off as usual but unusually Coach Pete was playing so we could actually chase it. And chase it we did while the RSBC filled their pants and knocked on. Scrum time and in fact party time for our pack as we did what we do best and were fatter than them causing them to stagger in a girly fashion backwards at a rate of knots. Hoorah we thought but then one little handling mistake later and their backs were carving through through the wide open spaces only to be felled by some heroic tackling. The scene was set!

Half time came and we were tailing 5-0 but felt like we had only had the ball for about 5 minutes while defending for the rest of the half. The second half started brightly with many close to the ruck charges but we never really managed to use the ball out of the tackle or recycle quickly enough to get behind their defence. 2 penalty exchanges left us within striking distance at 8-3 but we just could not get over their whitewash from close range. Another mistake handed them possession in their own half and some very slick hands and angles of attack resulted in what I am sure will be one of the tries of the tournament. We continued to barge and bluster and finished the game with our heads held high after a very hard game in which we had shown them what Bangers are made of. 15-3 the final score but we were only cm away on several occasions and should go into our final game of the tournament against them with the knowledge that we certainly can beat them.

Many of the lads who had not had a lot of game time then joined up with the Bangkok Japanese and played some great rugby against the Southerners. A huge thank you to all of those players and supporters who turned up to give us a cheer. In the third half as the Italians and French like to say we once again showed why we are such a special club by staying together and drinking loads and loads of Heineken and with no work for me on Friday I really did enjoy my "golf balls in the plastic". After a rather large table of beer at the stadium we headed back to Wall Street to enjoy Club night and to show some of the newer members where we keep our trophies both won and stolen! Top night all around gents and as always I salute you, even if you can't hold onto the f***ing ball.
