Banger Vets Win Inaugural Vinarco Tens

The Old Bangkok Banger Vets won the inaugural Vinarco International Tens on Saturday at Patana School. This new rugby festival for veteran rugby players, got off on the right foot with teams fully participating in the mood of the day. Which was good fun, friendship and fraternity. It probably helped that the Tiger girls were dispensing cold beer at reasonable prices at a strategically place kiosk on the half way line. Needless to say Tiger did a roaring trade.

The Vets played well all afternoon in the competition matches, and scored a place in the final against their rugby brothers down the road. The Southerners. The Vets had a dream start notching a brace of tries in the first twenty mintues. Their good form continued for the rest of the match and the lads easily ran out comfortable winners in what could be described as a trademark display game of great running rugby. Vincent Swift, the CEO of Vinarco was on hand to present the trophy to a very happy Banger skipper, Andrew Tatam. Final score: Banger Vets 38, The Southerners 7

Bangers Back To Winning Ways

Last Sunday The Old Bangkok Banger Colts and Veterans joined to play a training match against the Bangkok Japanese in preparation for the busy rugby schedule in the last quarter of 2010. The club has recruited well during the holiday break with over forty turning up for a run.

The game started in true Banger fashion with the Bangers scoring a soft try within the opening minutes. This galvanised the team to play some attractive rugby with both the forwards and backs linking well all afternoon.

The plan to give everyone a run from the coaching team, allowed for a mass transformation of the squad, occuring during each twenty minute stanza. A good performance by all and much improved on earlier games. Final score: Old Bangkok Bangers 30. Bangkok Japanese 18

Banger Vets Leave For Cape Town Rugby Carnival

The Banger silvertails departed from Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, on Saturday to participate in the Vintage Rugby Carnival in Capetown, South Africa. There were no stragglers as the organisers were expecting. Brian Sinclair Thompson, the veteran regional airline executive handled the embarkation process with flair and aplomb, even pulling a few string so the lads could watch the Wallaby-Springbox Tri Nations match live in the Malaysian Airlines VIP lounge during their lengthy stopover in Kuala Lumpur.
